Species List: 15-12-2018, Fish Cage, Mooloolah River, La Balsa Park, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Qld.

18 species sighted at Fish Cage, Mooloolah River, La Balsa Park, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Qld, 15-12-2018.

A single shore dive by Gary, Gail and Courtney on this excursion consisting of 1 x 167 minute dive in water depth up to 5.7 m, 1 m viz, 25 C water temp.

With a bit of a swell happening outside, the river looked to be a better choice. The sediment surely came in. The bottom was silt laden but we managed to find some interesting nudibranchs especially 5 Siphopteron makisig animals and 2 species of Costasiella. To top off the dive our 788th species was found, at 4 mm, Embletonia gracilis was a great find confirmed by Bob Burn plus our 789th species Haminoea sp. 13.

Species List: 14-12-2018, La Balsa Park, Mooloolah River, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Qld

24 species sighted at La Balsa Park, Mooloolah River, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast, Qld, 14-12-2018.

A single shore dive by Terry and Julie of 126 minutes. Maximum depth 5.9m, 24 C water temperature and up to 2m viz.

With TC Owen forecast to head back down the coast, we decided on a dive before the rain and wind made conditions in the river less than pleasant. Little did we know that the Trichodesmium (algae) had been washed into the river creating the impression of Toxic Sludge on the water surface. Deciding that the water looked clean enough under the surface we went ahead and dived anyway. Despite the murky conditions of the water we still managed a reasonable species diversity.
